Medical health-

Dentist, doctors and opticians-

Going to the dentists or opticians for a check-up happens (or is recommended to happen) about once a year. This can be incredibly difficult for some people with autism. An invasion of personal space, sensory issues with the tools used and bad associations with the place can make going to these appointments very difficult.

Doctors appointments however tend to be at times of crisis, this can add difficulty to the experience as sensory and emotional processing is impacted by pain/discomfort (mental and physical). I make notes before I go into appointments I write notes of what I want to say and then I take the notes with me to refer to.
